It also contains chapters by Milcho Leviev, Dave McDaniel, and Ralph Humphrey which are more focused looks at odd meters designed for pianists, bassists, and drummers, respectively. He then proceeds with methods of keeping time and not getting lost in the bar, including several techniques developed by the Hindustani culture. Don gives an informative introduction about why the book was written, how western music has come to contain very few occurances of odd meters, etc. ![]() The new rhythm book is the answer to almost every practical question about odd time signatures you could possibly have. While obviously directed toward the curious jazz musician, this book contains a wealth of knowledge for all musicians. the new rhythm book may very well be the most comprehensive guide to odd-metered playing in existence. Not only was Don remarkable at transfering his musical ideas into sound, he was also very good at getting his ideas down on paper, as his two books illustrate.
